Our guide to gym and health insurance rewards in the UK: how Vitality, Aviva and Bupa discount premium gyms, independent guides to 70+ David Lloyd, Virgin Active, Nuffield Health and Third Space clubs, and the reason active people take out cover: fast treatment when they get injured.
Health insurance does not include gym membership, but some insurers reward active members: Vitality gives 50% off a rolling monthly membership at Virgin Active, Nuffield Health or PureGym, and Aviva’s scheme, up to 25%, has included David Lloyd. Which clubs are included changes, so check before you join. See how the Vitality gym discount works and which insurers offer gym perks.
The bigger reason gym members buy cover is injury. Orthopaedics has England’s biggest NHS waiting list, about 849,000 people in July 2026 with only 61% seen within 18 weeks. Health insurance can cover physio, scans and surgery for new injuries within weeks. Below: every club guide we have written, and the injury cover that matters.
Gym perks are a bonus, not the reason to choose a policy. The core value for someone who trains is physiotherapy, scans and specialist access when something goes wrong. If two policies offer similar cover at a similar price, rewards are a fair tie-breaker.
The rewards model built for active people: 50% off a rolling monthly membership at Virgin Active, Nuffield Health or PureGym (40% on Lite plans), plus activity points that unlock other rewards. David Lloyd left the partner list in January 2022. Check the current list before you join.

David Lloyd does not publish club prices, so each guide explains how that club’s membership works, its pool, racquets, spa and classes, and what to ask on a tour. Start with the David Lloyd membership cost guide.
Virgin Active publishes more pricing than David Lloyd, and it is a long-standing Vitality partner. Our guides cover prices, day passes, facilities and the Vitality position club by club.
Nuffield Health runs more than 100 fitness and wellbeing centres, many with on-site physiotherapy, which is why they suit people who want gym and rehab under one roof.
London’s premium clubs, plus how to find Pilates classes near you.
People who play tennis and padel, swim and train regularly are the people most likely to need physiotherapy, a scan or a specialist. On the NHS that often means months. Health insurance can cover physio, scans, specialist appointments and surgery for new injuries after you join, usually within days or weeks. Injuries or conditions you already have are usually excluded, which is why cover is most useful when it is in place before something goes wrong.
If an injury turns into an operation, our private surgery hub has published prices for knee, hip and shoulder surgery, and the private hospitals hub lists every hospital near you. Scans are in the scans and tests hub.
Not as standard. UK health insurance pays for private treatment of new conditions; it does not include a gym membership. Some insurers run rewards programmes that discount membership at partner gyms. Vitality gives 50% off a rolling monthly membership at Virgin Active, Nuffield Health or PureGym (40% on Lite plans), and Aviva’s discount scheme, up to 25%, has included David Lloyd, Nuffield Health and Virgin Active. Which clubs are included, and the discount, vary by plan and change regularly, so check with the insurer before joining.
Virgin Active, yes: Vitality health members get 50% off a rolling monthly membership (40% on Lite plans), though a joining fee normally applies and a couple of London clubs are excluded. David Lloyd, no: it stopped being a Vitality partner on 1 January 2022, when PureGym joined the list alongside Nuffield Health and Virgin Active. If you want a David Lloyd discount through insurance, Aviva’s scheme, up to 25%, has included it. Our Vitality gym discount guide explains the details.

David Lloyd does not publish club prices online. The monthly cost depends on the club, the membership tier, off-peak or anytime access, and whether it is an individual, joint or family membership. Our David Lloyd membership cost guide explains how pricing works and what to ask on a tour, and each club guide covers that club’s facilities and offers.
It can be, if your policy includes physiotherapy cover and the clinic is in your insurer’s network. Most insurers need a GP referral and pre-authorisation first, though some offer Direct Access to physio without a referral. Check with your insurer before booking.
